Meally › Paprika app alternative
Looking for a Paprika app alternative? Your recipes come with you.
Coming in the next app update. The Paprika import arrives with Meally's next release for iPhone and Android; this page shows how it will work.
With its next update, Meally imports your whole Paprika library for free. Here's what changes when you switch:
- Saving from social media
- Instagram, TikTok and Facebook
- One purchase
- Covers iPhone and Android
- Web app
- Yes, at app.meallyapp.com
Free to start: 20 recipes and 2 folders, no ads, on iPhone, Android & Web.
What comes across
- Recipes
- Name, ingredients and directions. Ingredient headings stay headings, and directions are split into steps.
- Photos
- Each recipe's photo, at the best quality your export holds.
- Categories
- Every Paprika category becomes a Meally folder. A recipe in three categories sits in three folders.
- Notes
- Description, notes, nutrition and your star rating, kept together in the recipe's notes.
- Details
- Servings, times, the source link and its author.
Importing the same file twice adds nothing twice, and an import that gets interrupted picks up where it stopped.
Meally and Paprika Recipe Manager, side by side
Both apps keep your recipes, plan your meals and build a shopping list. Here is where they differ.
| Meally | Paprika Recipe Manager 3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Saving from social media | Share an Instagram, TikTok or Facebook post to Meally and the recipe comes in (how it works) | Not in Paprika 3; the Paprika 4 beta adds it |
| One purchase | A one-time purchase covers iPhone and Android on the same account | Each platform is sold separately |
| Subscription | Optional: Premium is also a one-time purchase | None for Paprika 3; Paprika says Paprika 4's premium features will need one after the beta |
| Web app | Yes, at app.meallyapp.com | Not listed on paprikaapp.com; apps for Mac and Windows |
| Recipe translation | Any recipe, into your app's language, with Premium | Not among the features on paprikaapp.com |
| Platforms | iPhone, iPad, Android and the web | iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Android, Mac and Windows |
| Free to start | 20 recipes and 2 folders | A free Android version for up to 50 recipes, without sync |
| Ads | No ads | No ads |
In short: your Paprika library comes with you in the next update, and you gain saving from Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, a web app, and one purchase for both iPhone and Android.
Paprika details as of November 5, 2026, from paprikaapp.com, its App Store and Google Play listings, and its Paprika 4 beta announcement, which says premium features will require a subscription once the beta ends.
Switch in three steps
Once the update is out:
-
Export from Paprika
On iPhone, iPad or Android, open Settings → Export Recipes → All Recipes and choose “Paprika Recipe Format”. On a Mac or PC, choose File → Export, then move the file to your phone: AirDrop, iCloud Drive or email all work.
-
Open the import in Meally
Install Meally and sign in. Tap + and choose Import from Paprika (it's in Settings → Import too), then choose the file. It ends in .paprikarecipes.
-
Check, then import
Meally reads the file on your phone and shows what it found: recipes, photos, categories, and anything that's already in your book. Tap Import. You can leave the screen; it keeps going while Meally is open.
Questions
When can I import from Paprika?
With Meally's next app update for iPhone and Android. Until then you can already use Meally to save recipes from websites, Instagram and TikTok.
Is there a free alternative to the Paprika app?
Meally is one. It's free to download, has no ads, and its free plan holds 20 recipes and 2 folders, with Meally Premium (a subscription or a one-time purchase) for more. The Paprika import, coming in the next update, is free whatever the size of your library, and every recipe it brings stays yours.
Is there a Paprika alternative without a subscription?
Yes. Like Paprika 3, Meally can be bought once: Meally Premium is sold as a one-time purchase as well as a subscription, and one purchase covers iPhone and Android on the same account. Paprika says the premium features of Paprika 4 will require a subscription once its beta ends.
Is there a Paprika alternative for Android?
Yes. Meally runs on Android 7.0 and later, with the same recipe book on iPhone, iPad and the web. Paprika 3 is on Android too, with a free version for up to 50 recipes, without sync.
Which apps are like Paprika?
Recipe managers that keep your own collection, like Paprika does, include Meally, ReciMe, Recipe Keeper and Crouton, and Mealie if you'd rather host it yourself. Meally's strengths are saving recipes from Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, a one-time purchase option, and apps for iPhone, Android and the web. Comparing ReciMe too? See the ReciMe alternative page.
Is the import really free?
Yes. Once it's out with the next update, importing from Paprika is free for everyone, whatever the size of your library. Meally's free plan holds 20 recipes: every recipe you import stays yours, and saving new recipes beyond 20 needs Meally Premium.
Do I need my Paprika account or password?
No. You export a file from Paprika and choose it in Meally. Meally never asks for your Paprika login, and it reads the file on your phone; only your recipes and their photos are saved to your Meally account.
What doesn't come across?
Paprika's recipe export holds recipes only, so meal plans, grocery lists and pantry items stay behind. Meally keeps one photo per recipe. Meally has its own meal planner and shopping list, built from the recipes you bring.
Can I undo an import?
Yes. Settings → Import → Remove last Paprika import deletes exactly the recipes, photos and folders that import added. Everything else stays as it was.
Is Meally part of Paprika?
No. Meally is an independent app made by a two-person team in Czechia. Paprika is a trademark of its owner, and Meally is not affiliated with or endorsed by it.
