How to save recipes from Facebook posts and Reels
Saving a post in Facebook keeps the post, not the recipe. To keep the recipe itself on your phone, as text:
- Tap Share on the post or Reel with the recipe.
- Choose Meally. If it isn't listed, open your phone's full share menu (More, or More options) and pick it there. You can also tap Copy link and paste the link into Meally.
- The recipe lands in your recipe book: the ingredients and steps from the post's text, as text you can search and scale, with a link back to the post.

Other ways to save a Facebook recipe, no app needed
- Save it in Facebook: tap the three dots on the post or Reel and choose Save. It goes to Saved in the Facebook menu, where you can sort posts into collections.
- Copy the text: tap and hold the text of a post and choose Copy, then paste it into your notes. If the text is cut off, tap See more first.
- Screenshot it: for a Reel, or a recipe printed on an image, take a screenshot. You can copy the text out of it with Live Text in the Photos app on iPhone, or with Google Lens on Android.
All three keep a post, a note or a picture of the recipe. You can't search it by ingredient, change the servings or turn it into a grocery list, and a saved post disappears when its author deletes it.
Saved in Facebook vs. saved in Meally
| Saved in Facebook | Saved in Meally | |
|---|---|---|
| What's saved | The post | The recipe as text, plus the link to the post |
| If the author deletes the post | It's gone | The recipe stays; only the link stops working |
| Change servings | Do the math yourself | One tap |
| Meal plan and grocery list | Not part of Facebook | Plan the week and get a grocery list built from it |
If the recipe doesn't come through
If the recipe is in the comments: many recipe posts put the recipe, or a link to it, in the first comment, and Meally reads only the post's own text. If the comment links to a website, open it and share that page to Meally. If the recipe is written in the comment, copy it, tap + in Meally, choose Create recipe manually and use Paste Ingredients and Paste Preparation Steps.
If the post is in a private group or shared only with friends, Meally can't read it: it only sees posts that anyone can see without logging in. Take a screenshot of the recipe, then tap + in Meally and choose Photos under “Or scan from”.
If the recipe is only spoken in the video and not written in the post, there's no text to read. Meally then shows “No ingredients or steps found”: you can add them yourself or just save the video.
If the post links to a recipe website, open the link and share the recipe page from your browser to Meally.
If the recipe is on an image, such as a recipe card in a photo post, take a screenshot of it. Then tap + in Meally and choose Photos under “Or scan from”.
What you can do with a saved recipe
-
Find it again
Sort recipes into folders and categories, and search by name or by an ingredient you remember.
-
Cook from it
Step-by-step cooking mode with timers, and servings you can change.
-
Plan and shop
Put it on a day in your weekly plan, then tap Generate shopping list: the ingredients land on your grocery list, grouped by aisle.
-
Use it offline
Saved recipes, cooking mode and the grocery list work without a connection.
-
Share it
Send it as a link, which works for people without Meally too, or as a PDF.
-
Credit the creator
The link to the original post stays with the recipe, so the creator is always one tap away.
Frequently asked questions
How do I save a recipe from Facebook to my phone?
Tap Share on the post or Reel and choose Meally. The ingredients and steps from the post's text land in your recipe book, with a link back to the post. If Meally isn't listed, open your phone's full share menu (More, or More options) and pick it there, or tap Copy link and paste the link into Meally.
How do I save recipes from Facebook Reels?
The same way: tap Share on the Reel and choose Meally. Meally reads the Reel's caption, so the recipe has to be written there, not only spoken in the video. To keep the Reel in Facebook as well, tap the three dots and choose Save.
Where do saved posts go on Facebook?
To Saved, in the Facebook menu (facebook.com/saved on a computer), where you can sort them into collections. A saved post is still just the post: if its author deletes it, it's gone from your list.
What if the recipe is in the comments?
Meally reads the post's own text, not the comments. If the comment links to a website, open it and share that page to Meally. If the recipe is written in the comment, copy it, tap + in Meally, choose Create recipe manually and use Paste Ingredients and Paste Preparation Steps.
Can I save recipes from a private Facebook group?
Not by sharing the link: Meally can only read posts that anyone can see without logging in, so posts in private groups or shared only with friends come through empty. Take a screenshot of the recipe instead, then tap + in Meally and choose Photos under “Or scan from”.
Is there a free app to save Facebook recipes?
Meally is free for 20 recipes and 2 folders, with no ads. Meally Premium removes the limits, as a subscription or a one-time purchase.
Keep the recipe, not just the post
